First Impressions, Interviewing

The goal of this unit is to prepare for the upcoming Mock Interviews.  You are expected to understand the dynamics of interviewing.  You be listening to the questions that the professionals ask of you thoroughly, stopping and thinking about what you are being asked and avoiding interruptions or assumptions.  Your response is expected to be slow and clear.

The best way to avoid nerves is to prepare and practice.

Here is a power point about interviewing that we will use to get started.

In order to prepare for this MOCK INTERVIEW Experience you will be asked to take the following steps.
  1. Prepare written responses to basic interview questions and submit using weebly. Mock Interview Preparation Round #1 and #2 (STAR Method).  SUBMIT for Formative Grade.
  2. Practice using the STAR Method when answering behavioral questions in an interview.  Link to Lakeland Community College's Career Service's Page about how to answer an behavior question with the STAR Method before you submit Round #2.
     3. Respond verbally to basic interview questions using InterviewStream. Your responses will count as a Formative Grade.
     4. Self-Assess a total of 4 of your Interview Stream responses.
     5. Review the feedback provided in both the written responses and through the Interview Stream evaluation.
     6. Final Phase:
  • Spend time outside of class practicing your responses.
  • Talk to trusted adults about interviews they have had in the past to learn from the experiences of others.
  • Visualize yourself being successful in the interview experience.
  • Take care of details (resume, clothing, grooming, etc.)

By the end of this process you will be ready for the MOCK  INTERVIEW Experience.
