Before starting stations
Whole Group Discussion (divide students in pairs)
- What do you think the older generation thinks of younger generations
- What does your generation think of older generations
- Do you think these ideas are always true, sometimes true, never true, why?
- Consider using one of the pictures from Habitudes before launching stations.
- Define stereotype
- What causes stereotypes?
STATION #1: The Cultural Divide
- Consider each of the 6 scenarios. Think about and discuss the question posed.
- On the easel write 3 strategies that one can use at an internship to make sure stereotyping does not occur.
- Topic to discuss with professional, write down notes during this discussion: Diversity in the workplace, why is it important/relevant, how do most companies strive for workplaces that are free of stereotyping?
STATION #2: Examining Work Attitudes
- Read the scenarios about Justin who is a store clerk.
- Then role play #5 and videotape your role play. You will have a decision to make. You are going to make a video about the supervisor or about the co-worker NOT both.
- One intern will be Justin and one will be the supervisor. Record a 2 min video in which the supervisor calls Justin into the office. What is said? How does he respond? How can the supervisor help Justin become a better employee?

STATION #3 Teamwork, An Essential Element of Professionalism
- Typically in the workplace professional behaviors are often evaluated. You may even be asked to do a self-evaluation and compare with your supervisor’s evaluation of your performance. Today, you will evaluate yourself as a worker/ student. Be honest. Results are confidential.
STATION #4 Is it “professional” to have friends at work
- Use the board to list pros and cons to having friends at work.
- Read the Avoid the Clique scenarios
- Be sure everyone knows what a clique is
- Read scenario#1 What specific instructions would you give if you were the supervisor.
- Read scenario#2 Come up with possible solutions for each of the four questions and be prepared to discuss your answer with the whole group.
