STEP 2 - Highlighting a Community Partner: The goal of this assignment is to create a video/ find a video or create a web page that can be included with the PHS Pathways General Information in order to connect student’s classroom learning to the real world. See the Criteria for Success. NEED an EXAMPLE? Here is a video that Lubrizol made about their company and it's mission. The connection to the STEM Pathway is clear after viewing this short video.
September, 2016 STEP 3 - Develop a 4-year plan (or however many years you have to go before graduation) using the resources provided on the PHS Guidance Department website. Print or download the 4-year plan using the link. Before you submit your plan you will need to have it approved (signature needed!) by your teacher or a Guidance Counselor. Submit your personalized 4 year plan based on what you know about the Pathways and yourself so far. We will revisit this plan throughout the semester.
STEP 4 - Possibilities for Next Steps JOURNAL - Before you wrap up the meeting with Mrs. Soeder or your Guidance Counselor be sure to have a conversation about next steps. Based on your plan what should you be doing between now and your next meeting? What next steps do YOU need to take to make your plan possible. Share this Journal assignment using google docs.
REFLECTION: You will begin the reflection process in the context of questions asked at the end of the "Getting to Know the Pathways" handout. You will continue the reflection phase with a thorough evaluation of your video/webpage using the Criteria for Success. Finally, you will submit the "next steps" journal.
Perry Virtual Career Center (PVCC) CONTRIBUTION: At the end of this unit you will have the chance to provide PMS students with a preview of the Pathways. Middle school students will one day be High School students and we want to make sure they have some level of awareness about what the PHS Pathways are.
As a group we will brainstorm what key elements the middle school students "must know" upon their transition to HS about the Pathways (core classes, electives, opportunities to explore career fields/college majors).
Develop a Pathway Scavenger Hunt of sorts to ensure that MS students visit a booth representing each Pathway and learn something new.
Create a check-list for Exploring Pathways students about what information needs to be made available to MS students when they visit the booth/table. Be specific about what should be presented visually vs. orally.
